For our daughter’s recent birthday, she requested a weekend trip to Dallas in lieu of a birthday party. We were more than happy to accommodate that request! A huge part of the attraction, for her, was the opportunity to stay in a hotel and go to the American Girl store.
Upon our arrival, the first thing we did was visit the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Situated on White Rock Lake, the family-friendly Dallas Arboretum is one of the top arboretums in the world! The 66-acres feature 19 manicured gardens, seasonal activities, dining, trial gardens, and an 8-acre children’s adventure garden.
After taking in the beauty of the arboretum, we ventured to the Galleria to find parking in time for our reservation at the American Girl Bistro. While you can schedule birthday parties at American Girl, the restaurant also serves brunch, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It is necessary to make reservations in advance.
This is such a fun experience for girls, as part of the fun involves bringing your AG doll along! She was so excited to receive the brand-new Felicity doll for her birthday… possibly her favorite character of the American Girl books we’ve read this year!
The Bistro has special seats for your American Girl doll, and they bring out mini cups and saucers (which they also provided for our toddler to play with). Since we had the toddler in tow, we opted for an afternoon dessert reservation. Since our toddler has food allergies, we brought along a special sweet treat for her, and they didn’t mind at all. The girls loved that each silverware roll was tied with a souvenir pink hair-tie, and the mini cups and saucers were souvenirs, too. There was a box of question cards on each table which helped occupy them while we waited. The birthday girl chose the signature flower pot chocolate mousse with a side of cookies, and they also brought her a complimentary birthday cupcake! Mom and dad shared a hot fudge brownie sundae. Everything was delicious, and it was really special for the birthday girl!
We also enjoyed some time browsing the store and purchasing an official American Girl doll hairbrush and a mini-doll to add to our collection!
The next day, we headed to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. This phenomenal 180,000 square foot attraction features 11 permanent exhibits, just to give you an idea. It’s interactive. It’s inspiring. It’s jaw-dropping. You’ll find dinosaur skeletons, birds, sports, gems and minerals, engineering, energy, the universe, a children’s museum, and so much more!
We had a great time in Dallas. The birthday girl said that she loved “all of the tall buildings, the American Girl store, all of the museums, and running around the Arboretum too.” I think it was a success!
Disclosure: We received complimentary admission to the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum for purposes of this post. As always, all opinions are our own!
