We recently had a unique (and exciting) opportunity to do some business traveling with my husband, which first landed us in–of all places–Dayton, Ohio. The closest I’d ever been to Ohio was Chicago or Philadelphia, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. We were also traveling with our preschooler, so I would need to find some fun things to do with her while my husband attended meetings.
Dayton didn’t disappoint! If you are visiting the Cincinnati or Dayton area, there are plenty of family-oriented things to do!
While you can always check out the major league sporting events that Cincinnati has to offer, while spending an evening in Cincinnati, we dined at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse overlooking the Ohio River. With delicious food, a great atmosphere, and an awesome view, we give it three thumbs up! You can even see Kentucky from your table.
Our favorite part of our trip to Dayton was visiting the United States Air Force National Museum. My maternal grandfather served in the Air Force, and I’ve always been fascinated with history. This massive museum made history come alive.

I wasn’t expecting such elaborate paint jobs on so many of these planes! So colorful–and really enjoyable for the whole family!
Probably the most memorable part of this museum was seeing the Bockscar–the B-29 bomber that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, thus ending World War II.

In Dayton, we also visited the Cox Arboretum, and it was a great place to run off some energy and snap some photographs!
With bridges and rock pathways, this arboretum is fun for kids to explore!
There is also an awesome butterfly house where you can view caterpillars, butterflies, and more beautiful flowers.
The picturesque Cox Arboretum is also a popular wedding venue.
As our time in Dayton came to an end, we visited The Greene–a beautifully designed outdoor shopping center loaded with restaurants, retail, and entertainment. When in Dayton, be sure to visit The Greene–it has something for everyone!
