Cardboard Box Kitchen DIY

March 17, 2012 by intentionalmomma 4 Comments

If there’s one good thing about the moving process, it’s the cardboard boxes and the potential they possess. I’d been excited about attempting a little kitchenette for my little one!

While it isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, my toddler seems to love it! This box was the perfect size for her. I kind of made it up as I went along. The silver duct tape was a must.
Materials I used:
-cardboard box
-silver duct tape
-craft paint and paintbrush
-5 plastic play-doh lids
-5 brads
-1 cardboard paper towel tube
-1 small metal mixing bowl with lip
-hot glue gun
-box cutting knife
-1 additional cardboard square
-1 small additional box (optional)
If you’d like to give it a try, here are some basic instructions:
Make sure box is securely closed. Sketch your design onto the box, and trace the outline of the metal bowl where you’ll want the sink to be. Then use the box cutting knife to cut a hole a bit smaller than the circle. Then, paint and let dry.
For the sink faucet, cover the paper towel tube with duct tape. Then, fold it over and tape around to secure into position. Trace the shape of the tube behind the sink, and then cut the hole a bit smaller. Then, wiggle the base of the faucet down into the hole, maybe a couple of inches. I used hot glue to secure it.
To make the silver towel bar, fold duct tape against itself to make a long strip. Cut two small slits in the cardboard box and position the ends of the tape strip into the holes. Secure on the inside of the box.
For the oven knobs and sink knobs, poke a small hole in the center of the plastic lids. Also poke small holes in the cardboard box. Secure the lids to the box with brads, and reinforce from the inside of the box if necessary.
For the oven door, cover the cardboard square with duct tape, then secure door to front of oven with duct tape.
In the end, I really felt that we needed some storage space, so with hot glue, I attached a small box to the side of the kitchenette.
To finish it off, I lined the edges with duct tape for extra reinforcement and to polish off the look!
